We pray for New Year’s Eve celebrations . . .

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” –Ps. 91: 11-12

Father God, as we move into a new year, we pray for New Year’s Eve celebrations across our region.  As people gather in large groups and small, in big events and small, we ask for wisdom and safety in the celebrating and the traveling to and from.  May there be no tragedies to mar this year’s passing.

Strengthen our city’s families…

“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:18

As we make our “New Years Resolutions” this year, may they be filled with actions that strengthen the bonds of our families, mend broken relationships, and build one another up.  Empower those resolutions to bear fruit throughout the coming months.  We pray that the coming year will be a year for improving families here in Colorado Springs.

Let the children come to me…

Jesus, You said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children” (Matt 19:14).

We pray for our Troops as they engage the children of war in Afghanistan. Keep Your love and compassion alive in our uniformed servicemembers. Give them wisdom on how they interact with these precious innocents. Protect our men and women from speaking words or committing deeds which cause wounds to these children. Let the least of these come to You, Jesus, as they see Your Spirit reflected through our Troops. Do not allow terrorists to use these little ones to bring harm to our warriors.

We pray for the government in the coming year…

“And this is the confidence that we have before him: that whenever we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.” 1 John 5:14-15

As our City government moves forward into this New Year of unknowns and uncertainties, thank you oh God, that we can rest in the knowledge that You are hearing and answering all of the prayers we are lifting up for our City, and the governmental leaders of our City! Continue to radically change, anoint and prosper Colorado Springs – a City of great destiny!

We pray for rest for our city’s teachers and students…

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”  Luke 2:14

Heavenly Father, we lift up our city’s teachers and students and ask that they would have a joyful, restful, restorative vacation.  Give them good times with their families and prepare them to come back with renewed energies for teaching and learning in the new year.

We pray for today’s shoppers and workers…

“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among people with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:14

Father, on this, the second biggest shopping day of the year, may the goodwill of Christmas carry over into the shops of our city. We pray for peace, patience, and a palpable sense of community among those shopping, those standing in line, and those serving customers.

Merry Christmas!

And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High.
For you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
to give his people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins.
Because of our Gods tender mercy
the dawn will break upon us from on high
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.” Luke 1:76-79
