Merry Christmas

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

God bless you during this Christmas season.  Thank you for joining us in prayer for our city.  We will be back after the first of the year with more prayer points.

Freedom in Higher Ed 4

City Transformation: Freedom of Speech

  • Pray for minorities and other groups who are the target of verbal attacks at institutions of higher ed.
    • Pray that they would find support and healing for the hurt,
    • that they would have the strength to speak up for themselves and their fellow students,
    • that they would not turn to the authorities to try to punish those who say things they don’t like,
    • and that they instead learn to instruct others and expose the “isms”.

Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, states that “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”

Yet in many of our institutions of higher ed, you can get suspended or expelled for something you say.  This week we are praying for God’s wisdom and intervention to protect the freedom to discuss and seek the truth.

Freedom in Higher Ed 3

City Transformation: Freedom of Speech

  • Pray for believers at our institutions of higher ed, that they would be bold as lions, gentle as doves, and wise as serpents, so that they excel at sharing the truth without causing unnecessary offense.

Freedom in Higher Ed 2

City Transformation: Freedom of Speech

  • Pray for the administrators and faculty at our higher education institutions, that they would provide an environment where the free interchange of ideas can flourish, value the free interchange of ideas, and support the rights of students with whom they might disagree.

First Responders 5

City Transformation: Partnering with our first responders

  • Pray for our city paramedics and ambulance personnel, that they will be safe while on duty and that the healing of presence of God would go with them to touch the people they are serving.

After 9/11 and after the fires in our city, the police and fire departments were hailed as heroes. Lately, police departments across the country have come under suspicion and attack, some of it unwarranted and some of it deserved.  This week we are praying for our first responders and their relationship with the people of the city.
