We pray for deliverance from fires . . .

“When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, nor will the flame kindle upon you.” –Is 43:2

Father God, we mourn today the two who lost their lives in the Waldo Canyon Fire.  We don’t know their names or their situation yet, but we realize that it could have been any of us and our city is diminished because they are no longer with us.

May this loss spark in our hearts and minds a fresh commitment to care for and stay connected to one another.

Thank you Father for the rain and the favorable winds that slowed the fire on both the eastern and western edges today.  Thank you for the great progress in containing the wildfire.

We remember the 346 homeowners who lost their homes on Tuesday.  We ask for your comfort and your provision for them.  May we, their city, surround them and care for them.

Lord, as we grieve with those who have lost their homes, we thank you that no one has been injured and that everyone has been able to evacuate to safety.  We ask you for your continued strength for our handworking firefighting and media teams that are working around the clock to protect our city, and keep us informed and connected.

We declare with one voice that the winds will turn into themselves and quell the fire, and the rain will come.

Father God, as the worst fire in the history of our city engulfs the western edge of our city, we look to you for protection for everyone and especially for those fighting the fire.  Have mercy on us. Send us rain and favorable winds.  Give the firefighters strength and strategy.

Thank you for the generous outpouring of support, food, water, and cash.  I love my city and I am proud of how they are quick to pitch in and help when tragedy strikes.

Thank you, God, that there continues to be no injury or structure damage from the fire in our region.  We ask for your continued protection for the firefighters and the citizens near the fire.  Thank you for everyone–friends, neighbors, volunteers– who have stepped up to help in any way they can.  We ask for your grace and peace for those who are evacuated.  And we continue to ask for your supernatural assistance in getting the fire out.

Father God, this week we are praying for our region as fires rage around us.  We ask for protection for the homes and businesses of our city and for the media people covering the events surrounding the fire.  Thank you for the generosity displayed by our city’s businesses and service organizations to provide food, water, and shelter to the people and animals who have evacuated their homes.
