City Identity 5

City Transformation: External Identity

  • Pray for how our  higher education institutions are viewed.  While we celebrate our successes such as the recent U.S. News and World Report ranking of our local colleges, pray that we would draw students to our community that would benefit from and positively contribute to our life and culture.

We have recently prayed about our internal identity (how we see ourselves), but this week as C-SPAN’s 2014 Cities Tour is exploring Colorado Springs, we are praying about how others outside of our city see us.  Our city’s external identity has many facets–some positive, some not so positive, some deserved and some not so deserved. We want our city to be ultimately viewed as God sees it.

  • Pray for how the Dept. of Defense* views our city and our local military operations, particularly Fort Carson, as they make decisions about the future of those operations here.

He will not judge by appearance
nor make a decision based on hearsay. Isaiah 11:3

*El Paso County is in a competition with other high quality Army Posts across the country to keep troops here in Colorado Springs (a possible reduction of up to 16,000 troops at Fort Carson would potentially have a dire economic impact to everyone in our community). As part of this, the Army is doing a Supplemental Programmatic Environmental Assessment (SPEA) for their current Force 2020 restructuring plans with a request for community input.

  • Pray that the recently approved state tax revenue support for the City of Champions project would be used successfully for the future development of the city.  Also, pray that those making decisions about the project would be discerning and fair-minded in how the project development is pursued.

Wisdom is even better when you have money.
Both are a benefit as you go through life.
Wisdom and money can get you almost anything,
but only wisdom can save your life. Ecclesiastes 7:11-12

City Identity 2

City Transformation: External Identity

  • Pray that non-local business and industry leaders would see (or not see) the city as a good place to locate.  Ask for businesses that would add positively to our city’s life and culture to be drawn to the city and businesses that would not contribute positively would not be drawn.

The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance! Psalms 16:6

  •   Pray that the C-SPAN team will see our city for its uniqueness and potentials, giving an accurate report of the dimensions of who we are and who we are becoming.

In this way, you may know the truth and take an accurate report to those who sent you. Proverbs 22:21

Protection and Discernment 5

City Transformation: Protection and Discernment

  •  Pray for continuing divine protection over our region and for the Department of Homeland Security to be well organized and prepared for continuing to safeguard our region and nation.

As we pass through the anniversary of 9/11 this week and with the rumblings that our city is a terrorist target, we want to be alert to pray in faith and discernment for protection and a thwarting of enemy plans.

“He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.” Psalms 121:3-4

  • Pray for divine protection over our city and region.
  • Pray for confusion in the enemy camp(s) so that plans for evil can not be carried out.
