Community Transformation: The Power of the Kingdom of Heaven
- Pray for a reduced need for jails and prisons because God is transforming people who were tempted to commit crimes.
“For the kingdom of God does not consist in words but in power.” –1 Cor 4:20
“And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand! Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely (without pay) you have received, freely (without charge) give.” –Matt 10:7-8
Jesus intended his followers to have power. His instructions to his disciples put the preaching of the gospel in the context of power encounters. During the first approximately 300 years of church history, the number of believers grew exponentially, starting with a few hundred in Jerusalem and ending with about 10 million believers. This growth occurred because when people encountered believers, things happened. They saw a demonstration of the real deal. The truth of the message of the gospel was demonstrated, not just declared.
This week we are praying for believers in our city to live and operate in the power of the kingdom of heaven.
